Even though it is snowy and cold, Spring is on the way! Some of you say it can’t be too soon. After a long winter you realize that just taking a walk should not be taken for granted. Here are 5 places to go for a nice walk.

1. Dutchess Rail Trail
The Dutchess Rail Trail starts in Hopewell Junction and winds it’s way through Wappingers Falls, Poughkeepsie and ends on the other side of the river in Highland. This paved walkway is for all types of foot travel. Whether it be walking, jogging, riding a bike or even roller blading. The best part is going over the bridge to Highland where you can see for miles in both directions.
2. Harlem Valley Rail Trail
The Harlem Valley Rail Trail has two sections totaling 15 paved miles through Dutchess and Columbia County landscapes. It Starts in Wassaic and winds its way to Millerton. The second part that of the walking trail is not connected directly to Millerton but starts at Under Mountain Road and goes to Copake Falls Station right near beautiful Bash Bish Falls.
3. Locust Grove/ Morse Estate
The Locust Grove/Morse Estate offers guided tours, lectures and other special events. Five miles of trails that were originally 19th-century carriage roads, have been built in the wooded area around the house. Walking along the trails down to the Hudson River is a highlight of the day. Admission to the grounds is free; there is a fee for guided tours of the mansion.
4. Mount Beacon
For those looking for a great workout, head down to Mount Beacon for a strenuous walk to the top. From the top, you can connect to other trails as well. Take your time climbing up there so you can appreciate the views when you get to the top. It feels like you are standing on top of the world.
5. Taconic Hereford Multiple Use Area
The Taconic Hereford Multiple Use Area is a very popular place to walk, with dog walkers mountain bike riders and even horseback riders,. Since winter is not over it also a good place to go cross-country skiing, snow shoeing and snowmobiling on their snowmobile trail that loops around the property.
