Spring is officially here!! Time to get out there, put on your walking shoes and check out all the beautiful sights Upstate New York has to offer. A couple of places for a nice walk or a great hike, are The Rail Trail in Hopewell Junction or the Walkway over the Hudson in Poughkeepsie! But before hitting the trails for beautiful scenery and exercise, remember these tips:
- Flip-flops are never a great walking shoe
- Wear socks that absorb sweat away from the feet:
- Foot powder can be used to minimize sweating
- Choose shoes made of leather or canvas that allow your feet to breath (If shoelaces are a problem for you try a comfortable slip on shoe that has a thick, stable sole)
- Before and after your walk wiggle your toes for up to 5 minutes
When you set out for your adventure, it’s a good idea to take along a prepared foot care bag for whatever issues you may run into.
Your bag should include (but not limited to):
- Sterile bandages for minor cuts and scrapes
- Blister pads to prevent blisters and protect sore feet if a blister forms
- A pain reliever (such as Motrin or Tylenol) to ease tired and/or swollen feet.
Walking and hiking are considered good for your feet, so don’t let foot problems hold you back from all the fun you can have this spring! If you or someone or someone you know suffers when walking or being active make an appointment at Hollowbrook Foot Specialist in Wappinger Falls. Podiatrist Dr. Yavor Geshev call help put that spring back in your step.
