Even though Easter is here, you don’t want to have discolored toenails to match your Easter Egg colors. Discolored toenails could be telling you something about your health.
What Color are Healthy Toenails?
Toenails should normally be pink with a small, white half circular area at the top of the nail.
Discolored Toenails: Blue
Blue nails usually mean that your feet aren’t getting enough oxygen. If you warm up your feet and the blue color goes away, the low oxygen could be because your toes are cold. If your toenails stay blue, it could be a sign of a more serious problem such as lung disease.
Discolored Toenails: Black
Black nails could be a sign of anemia, not having enough vitamin B-12, trauma, liver or kidney disease, cancer, or a bacterial infection.
Discolored Toenails: Green
Green nails can be due to a fungal or bacterial infection, or an allergy to chemicals.
Discolored Toenails: Purple
Purple nails can also be due to low oxygen or blood flow problems.
Discolored Toenails: Gray
Gray nails can be because of arthritis, glaucoma, lung problems, or a poor diet. You can also get gray toenails after surgery.
Discolored Toenails: Yellow
Yellow nails can be seen in diabetics or people with liver or breathing issues. There is also something called Yellow Nail Syndrome where you get thick nails that grow very slowly. This causes them to become discolored and possibly come loose from the nail bed in some places.
Discolored Toenails: Red
Red nails can be a sign of high blood pressure, heart or lung disease, stroke, carbon monoxide poisoning, or bleeding in the brain.
