The Wrong Socks Can Promote Toenail And Foot Fungus
If you are wearing the wrong type of socks, you may be promoting toenail and foot fungus!
The sweat from your feet can be absorbed by your socks. Think of it as wearing sponges in your shoes. If the sponge never gets to dry out, it is a haven for fungus.
This is true for your feet. Wearing absorbent socks would be like wearing smelly sponges in your shoes. This could lead to toenail and foot fungus.
For example, 100% cotton socks that hold moisture in can lead to smelly feet and toenail fungus.
Synthetic Blend Socks are Better
One way to curb the sweating is to wear synthetic socks.
Certain synthetic socks are specifically designed to “wick” away moisture from your feet. They are the best choice for someone who has sweaty feet and is in shoes all day.
Most socks today are a blend of 80% cotton with 20% synthetic fiber made from polyester or acrylic. This works fine for people whose feet don’t normally sweat, but may be problem for people who wear sneakers or boots all day.
If you are having a problem with fungus, try to wear socks that have a high percentage of polyester or acrylic.
Shoes Can Hold Moisture, Too!
Shoes can hold moisture, too. It is helpful to alternate the shoes that you wear everyday. Give your shoes at least 24 hours between use to completely dry out.
