Arthritis of the Big Toe from just playing a role in a movie?
Arthritis of the big toe joint can be painful and last for a long time. But can you get arthritis of the big toe simply by purposely limping around for a movie role? Surprisingly, this is something that actually happened to Kate Winslet.
Kate Winslet is a very committed actress. In filming the recent movie, The Mountain Between Us, she developed arthritis of the big toe. In her role, she played a woman who was injured and limped for the filming of the movie. By doing this for a month, she put a lot of pressure on the big toe joint and a lot of strain on her right side. Walking like this for so long eventually caused arthritis of the big toe joint on her right foot.
“It’s because my character injures her leg very, very badly so I had to limp for almost the entire film and because I was loading so much weight into the one side, I got arthritis in my toe,” she said.
This could happen to any of us. If you are having pain on one side of your body and are favoring the other side, you too could be causing arthritis or other problems in your foot. Just by trying to avoid pressure on one area, you could be straining something else – eventually leading to more problems than you started out with. Often patients come in with some other kind of tendinitis or arthritis simply by limping around with a hurt foot or ankle.
To avoid this from happening try to give your foot and body a rest. If that doesn’t work, give our office a call at (845) 298-9074 to schedule an appointment so you don’t get arthritis of the big toe.
