How your baby is growing in your womb may determine your baby’s foot problems. Many foot problems that occur in children are due to the position of the baby inside the womb. The bones are soft at this time and so positioning becomes an important factor in the shaping of the legs and feet.
Why You Should Have Your Baby’s Foot Problems Checked Out Sooner Rather Than Later
After the baby is born, their bones remain soft for a period of time. If a problem is noticed early on the doctor will be able to address them. By addressing these issues early it will help them later in life. There is only a certain period of time during when the bones of the feet remain soft enough to mold back into their proper position. After that it becomes increasingly difficult to correct these types of problems.
If the child is less than one year old, intoe and clubfoot problems can be treated by holding the foot in the corrected position for a few months. This is done by either bracing, casting the feet or by using corrective shoes. It makes sense that the younger the child is when the treatment is started, the less time it should take to treat the problem.
There are other positions of the baby’s leg and feet which may appear to be unusual but are perfectly normal. These may appear like a problem but are really positions which occur during the normal development of the child. So do not guess when it comes to your baby’s health. A simple visit to our office could answer all of your questions.
