As of March 27, 2016, electronic prescribing is now mandatory! What does that mean for you?
When you go to your doctor, you will no longer get a written prescription. Everything will be sent electronically from your doctor’s office to the pharmacy. You will need to let the doctor know which pharmacy you want your prescription sent to.
How will this affect you?
The prescription should be there when you get there. This doesn’t mean that it will be filled when you get there, but it will already be in their system.
Benefits to Electronic Prescribing
- There should be more accurate prescriptions since the pharmacist doesn’t have to read the doctor’s writing.
- The patients will no longer be able to alter the prescription. The only way to make a change is if the pharmacy calls the doctor.
NY State Prescription Monitoring Program Prevents Narcotic Abuse
Patients will no longer be able to get multiple prescriptions of narcotic drugs from different doctors. A list of previous prescriptions come up so that the doctor will know if a patient is abusing a drug.
If you need a prescription when you come into the office, the doctor will send the prescription to the pharmacy of your choosing after your visit. If you have any questions please feel free to ask us how the new system will work.
